Keith and Coyne, I Salute You!

I tip my hat to Toby Keith. Whereas other singers whom Oklahomans claim as our own (Reba, Garth, Vince, etc.) don't actually live here anymore, Toby Keith has set up his home base on the east side of Norman. His house is beautiful, flies a humongous OU flag, and overlooks a really pretty valley with horses running around in it. Plus he spends his money here, with the upcoming Toby Keith's Roadhouse as a prime example.

But my hat comes completely off and flies in the air for Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips. The Grammy winner from OKC not only continues to live here, but lives in the most impoverished neighborhood I've ever seen in our town (at 13th and Gatewood). And Mr. Coyne loves being from here and loves living in his neighborhood. He also does a mighty fine job of stereotype-busting when it comes to Oklahoma musicians. In an appearance at the art museum's recent showing of the new Lips documentary Fearless Freaks, Mr Coyne said that he would like to be one of those voices on a PA system at the airport welcoming visitors to OKC.

I say he'd be great! Let's hear it!

It would be really great to have a Keith-Coyne duet, but somehow I just can't wrap my mind around what that might sound like...Or look like...

I think it says a lot about a person when they invest in their hometown and could live somewhere more tropical.
