Ruffled Feathers

In two of her recent posts, Lip Schtick, with her southside loyalty, makes clear that ugliness can be found all over our fair city and points out some kitschy landmarks on her former home turf. She makes good points. Please read her posts and my rather long-winded comment.

OKpartisan, you and Lilred bring up very important issues about Oklahoma City. I invite anyone who cares about OKC to watch a few City Council meetings, but before you do that find out what Ward you live in so that you know who is representing your side of town. This is where Maps, and Maps for Kids were born. City Council meetings are generally the 1st Tuesday of every month and are on Cox Channel 20 at 8:30 a.m. and then replayed at 6:30 p.m. This is where you will see owners of "blight" saying that they are working on it and are given many chances to fix things. Eventually though, the taxpayer will pay for removal or cleanup if owners never do anything. But it takes A LOT of red tape. I live in Ward 8 which is North OKC and I watched Guy Liebman turn Memorial Road into another NW Expressway. He only cared about "bidness" over here and not the greenbelts or the trees or the homeowners. I maintain that Guy probably had a monetary vested interest. I will also point out that many homeowners near Mercy Hospital did not know about the Heart Center until it had been approved and rezoned. It really caused a mistrust of the City governmnet. Thank you OKpartisan for your passion about Oklahoma and for letting me rant along with you and Lilred.
