It's a S.N.A.P.!

Okay everyone. It's the holiday season and perhaps your special someone needs a furry friend (of the dog or cat variety). Think about adopting a pet this year. The number of adoptable animals killed by the shelters here is horrifying. According to the writers of Dogpax.com (OKC dog rescue site), approximately 55% of dogs and puppies and 71% of cats and kittens entering shelters are killed. We can all reduce that number by remembering to SNAP
S) spay
N) neuter
A) adopt
P) provide (as in: a home, vet care, food, love, etc.)
Several large metropolitan areas have a no-kill policy at their shelters, and every adoptable animal finds a home. We have a long, long way to go before we will even begin to approach that here.

Thank you for this post, OKPartisan! I am a huge animal lover (wait...I'm not huge, but my love for animals is).

Sorry. On a serious note - I truly appreciate your post on this topic. I live in a neighborhood where the stray cats are numerous, and it absolutely breaks my heart. Unfortunately, most of them are feral, so they want no part of my trying to "befriend" them.

I have a cat who was actually a stray that my old roommate took in a few yaers ago. He has been mine for about three years now, and he is AWESOME! I can't imagine life without him.

Thanks again.
